 - Participation : 146 pilotes ont disputé au moins une course lors de ce 1er trimestre contre 160 lors de la même période en 2019. Pour mémoire, en 2019 c'est 182 pilotes au total qui avaient disputé au moins une course pendant l'année.
La révélation de ce début d'année est le jeune allemand Leon Forst (sous le nom de Joséphine Thiel jusqu'au 24.03.20). Ayant disputé quelques courses seulement depuis octobre il ne figurait dans le classement annuel que de manière anecdotique (133è) mais, sur ce 1er trimestre 2020 il se positionne aux portes du Top 20 avec déjà trois victoires dans la musette. Autant dire que c'est un compétiteur qu'il faudra suivre de près.
Malgré la légère baisse de participation (-10%) on constate avec plaisir l'apparition de près d'une dizaine de nouveaux pilotes. Quelques jeunots d'abord (- de 25 ans), comme quoi le Rétro Racing n'intéresse pas que les anciens : l'argentin Toni Gonzales, le brésilien Daniel Santana et le néerlandais Tom Oud, fils de Tames, qui a fait sa 1ère course en novembre 2019. On trouve aussi un concurrent déjà redoutable (-60), l'espagnol Jorge Nieva. Pêle-mêle on note aussi la présence de deux autres argentins, Javier Beliera et German Soto, de deux allemands, Lasse Albrecht et - futur gros client - Leon Forst, et d'un anglais, Paul Villiers.
On se réjouira aussi du retour d'une bonne demi-douzaine de pilotes :
Claudio Claudius, argentin, qui roulait chez Mybroga jusqu'en 2017 et y revient et l'autre argentin, redoutable, Hernan Suarez (-65) qui roulait chez Clandestines et Mybroga en 2016 et fait aussi son retour dans cette dernière. L'allemand Frank Mueller roulait chez GPL Racer en 2018 et y fait son retour. Le très rapide espagnol Keni Bloode / Blood (-82) avait brillé lors de la coupe du monde 2008 : il réintègre PDLR et on le verra chez Mybroga.
Le brésilien Raoni Frizzo (-43) roulait chez Mybroga en 2013 et revient pour y rouler à nouveau mais aussi pour intégrer Clandestines, GPL Brasil et UKGPL. Après plus de 1600 courses libres chez ADC (depuis 2008) l'américain Tom Johnson (-20) à intégré GPL Racer et a été vu chez Fun Liga. Enfin, le français Eric Libourel (-35) qui roulait dans les championnats francophones jusqu'en 2018 à fait son retour cette année dans le championnat Galaxie 67.
- Sur le 1er trimestre, quatorze pilotes ont disputé au moins une vingtaine de 20 courses : Donnie Yourth en compte carrément 34 alors que Bastian Grupp en a fait 29 et Enrique Farina 27.
Parmi les pilotes les plus actifs, six participent à au moins cinq ligues : Iestyn Davies a été vu dans sept championnats différents. Donnie Yourth et Gregory Taber figurent, eux, dans six alors que Enrique Farina, Eduardo Lima et Joao Marcon roulent dans cinq.
A l'inverse, 85 pilotes sont fidèles à une ligue.
- 95 courses ont été disputées, tous niveaux confondus, sur ce trimestre : 14 en janvier, 34 en février et pas moins de 47 en mars. Autant pour ce classement à fin mars, tous les résultats étant disponibles, ce dont je remercie les organisateurs des différentes ligues et Jani posta pour GPL Weekly. On notera cependant que trois courses n'ont pas généré de points pour ce classement car elles comptaient moins de 5 pilotes au départ.
- Fréquentation moyenne : 12.2 pilotes (en hausse, 9.5 en décembre 2019) - Max : 37 chez OAO (sur 2 niveaux) à Buenos Aires (08 & 15.02) et Killarney (21 & 28.03).
- Taux d'abandon : en baisse, à 34% contre 35 en décembre 2019 (1159 départs pour 771 drapeaux à damier). 32% en janvier, 35 en février et 30 en mars.
- Ils ont brillé en janvier, février et mars :
Au total 45 pilotes se sont illustrés en s'adjugeant une victoire lors du trimestre : 6 pilotes ont obtenu 3 succès. George Cheeseman, Clive Gardner et Gregory Taber, eux, en comptent 4. Yannick Verheijen en obtient 6. Robert Fleurke et Tim Roedl en ont glané, eux, pas moins de 7 chacun.
Par ailleurs, c'est pas moins de 38 pilotes qui, faute d'avoir pu s'imposer, ont su aller chercher un podium, voir plusieurs : parmi eux, Ulrich Hofmann en compte pas moins de 9. Clive Loynes et Phil Thornton suivent avec 6 chacun.
Enfin, aux points, les 10 meilleurs du trimestre sont récapitulés dans le tableau ci-dessous, avec leurs points et le meilleur résultat de la période :

The revelation, at the beginning of this year, is the young German Leon Forst (under the name of Josephine Thiel until 24.03.20). Despite the slight drop in participation (-10%) we are pleased to note the appearance of nearly ten new drivers. Some youngsters first (under 25 years old), which shows that Retro Racing is not only of interest to old drivers :
the Argentinean Toni Gonzales, the Brazilian Daniel Santana and the Dutch Tom Oud, son of Tames, who made his first race in November 2019. There is also an already very fast driver (-60), the Spanish Jorge Nieva. We note also the presence of two other Argentinians, Javier Beliera and German Soto, two Germans, Lasse Albrecht and - future big client - Leon Forst, and an Englishman, Paul Villiers.
We will also be delighted to welcome back a good half-dozen drivers :

On the other hand, no less than 38 drivers didn't won but were able to take a podium, even several : among them, Ulrich Hofmann had no less than 9, followed by Clive Loynes and Phil Thornton with 6 each.

Robert Fleurke (2è), Ulrich Hofmann (9è), Tristan Bot (5è), Clive Gardner (10è) et Eduardo Lima (8è).
